Peer-Mediated Intervention and Instruction

Peer-Mediated Intervention and Instruction

Peer-Mediated Instruction and Intervention (PMII) is a powerful, evidence-based approach that leverages the natural influence of peers to support social, behavioral, and academic growth for all students. In this training, participants will learn how to intentionally create structured opportunities for students to learn with and from one another in inclusive settings, with a strong focus on fostering authentic relationships and a sense of belonging. We will explore how to select and train peer partners, implement strategies such as peer networks and peer support, and embed these practices across daily routines and activities. Emphasis will be placed on promoting independence by fading adult support, ensuring interactions remain natural and mutually beneficial, and aligning interventions with student goals. By the end of the session, teams will be equipped with practical tools and a clear plan to build sustainable peer-mediated systems that enhance engagement, communication, and meaningful participation for all learners.
