About this video

Presented by Ali Sweitzer, MEd, BCBA, ASD Network Behavior Specialist, and Annette Wragge, MEd, BCBA, LBA, ASD Network State Coordinator

This training will explore a compassionate, skill-building approach for addressing problem behavior. A compassionate approach to behavior is grounded in evidence-based practices and informed by a relationship-centered intervention model. Participants will learn how to support students with challenging behavior in ways that are: Effective, Trauma-informed, Respectful, and Relational.

This presentation will provide practical ways to put compassion into practice and revamp functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.  We will discuss the importance of teaching skills that empower learners, showing them they do not need to escalate to have their needs met.

A compassionate approach to behavior and the steps to putting compassion into practice are based on the work of Dr. Greg Hanley and colleagues.  This work continues to be supported by an extensive and growing body of peer-reviewed evidence of effectiveness. Links to the research will be shared.
